San Jose Earthquakes General Manager Jesse Fioranelli has said the club will announce the signing of a Designated Player by the end of June.
Speaking at new President Tom Fox’s introductory press conference, Fioranelli said: “We have spent the last four months looking at hundreds of players across various positions on the field. We identified the profile of the player we wanted to find a couple of months ago, and now we are at the point where we are excited because we are not too far away from announcing the acquisition by the end of June. We are getting down to that point.”
Fioranelli confirmed that the DP will be under the age of twenty-eight and also hinted that it will be an attacking midfielder, saying that they are looking at someone who will “carry the weight connecting the midfield to attack.”
He said the club are prioritizing the quality of the player over their name brand.
He added: “We have a very good gut feeling about the acquisition that will take place.”
